High-quality etching on paper, enhanced with gouache and watercolor in a small edition. number 13/30 Very good and original condition Raoul Dufy (Le Havre, June 3, 1877 - Forcalquier, March 23, 1953) was a French Fauvist painter, illustrator and decorative painter. Biography Dufy worked as an accountant at a coffee importer in Le Havre from the age of 14. In 1895, in addition to this work, he took lessons in the evenings from the painter Charles Lhullier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre. Here he met the painter Emile-Othon Friesz. In 1900, Dufy won a scholarship to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, which his friend Friesz had entered before him a year earlier. Between the years 1905 and 1909, Dufy's work had a strong Fauvist influence. However, this changed after he came into contact with Cezanne's work. He increasingly developed his own style, which, after a flirtation with cubism, took shape from 1920 onwards. This style is generally characterized as stenographic and colorful. In 1938 Dufy completed one of the largest paintings in the world at the Exposition Internationale in Paris. Dufy died in 1953 in the town of Forcalquier and was buried in the cemetery of the Monastery of Cimiez near Nice.
