Original work by Paul Van Hoeydonck from 1971. Signed and dated Indian ink, gouache, mirror paper and photo print on Steinback. Paul Van Hoeydonck (19252025) was a Belgian sculptor and artist, internationally known as the only artist to place a work on the moon. His small aluminum sculpture Fallen Astronaut was left by the crew of Apollo 15 in 1971 as a tribute to deceased astronauts. Van Hoeydonck worked within the post-war avant-garde and experimented with abstraction, geometry and new materials, focusing on themes such as space, technology and the future of humanity.
