Paul Van Hoeydonck (1925–2025) was a Belgian sculptor and artist, internationally known as the only artist to place a work on the moon. His small aluminum sculpture Fallen Astronaut was left by the crew of Apollo 15 in 1971 as a tribute to deceased astronauts. Van Hoeydonck worked within the post-war avant-garde and experimented with abstraction, geometry and new materials, focusing on themes such as space, technology and the future of humanity.
